This section used to end by asking for a ruling: a fifth layer of its own, or a

## Capture — two careers the graph cannot tell apart

Betweenness rewards a person for connecting kingdoms and says nothing about
the *shape* of the career that did the connecting. Two shapes score the same
and mean opposite things.

An **itinerant** moves through many kingdoms in small parts and belongs to none.
A **captured** performer circulates the same way until one role takes them —
after which every later appearance carries that role with it, and the person
stops being a working actor you half-recognise and becomes a character who has
wandered in from somewhere else.

The index is the share of a person's counted episodes held by their largest
single credit, over the 122 people with at least three credits and a
counted episode among them.

**Valerie Bertinelli is the cleanest specimen in the corpus** at 100% — 128 episodes of Hot in Cleveland against 0 everywhere else.

**And Blake Clark is the opposite at 41%**, across 14 kingdoms with a largest credit of 22 episodes — while being **first in G₀**.
The same graph position, the opposite career. That is the whole reason to
measure this separately: centrality cannot see the difference, and a reader
looking at the map assumes the person at the top is a star.

**THE MEASURE IS REAL AND THE POPULATION IS NOT YET.** The pre-capture phase of
a captured career is guest work, and the cast sweep asked for main casts —
a standing rule, and the right one for building ensembles. The consequence is
that a capture index is computed over the part of a career the ledger happens
to hold, which is the captured part. Debra Jo Rupp guested through at least
eight kingdoms this corpus already holds — Newhart, Grand, Empty Nest, Blossom,
Phenom, Hearts Afire, Friends, Seinfeld — and carries a credit on **none** of
them. Her index is 97% partly because the other 3% was never entered.

Fixing that is not "import exhaustive guest casts", which this project has
refused from the start. It is a **person-first** sweep — trace one named
performer across the roster and record where they actually turn up — and it is
the first sweep here that would run down a career rather than across a cast.

## Reliability — the dispute queue is closed

**46 recorded disputes, 0 open.** A dispute is two *sourced*
readings of one figure that disagree. They are written down as disputes rather
than silently resolved, because a contested number that is not marked contested
is indistinguishable from a settled one.

The cast-completion waves supplied **542 of 2734 credits** (20%) and **502 of 1898 people** (26%). Each wave also re-supplied
credits the ledger already held, which was never designed as a test and is the
best one available: **158 overlapping rows, 36 disagreements — roughly one in four.**

**The disagreement runs both ways, and that is the finding.** On The Great Indoors
the ledger records 11 episodes against the wave's 22; on Grand, 13 against 26.
Both ledger figures are exactly half, which is a season total filed as a series
total, and in both the *older* figure is the wrong one. Several pre-wave figures
were also marked `sourced` on searches whose pages were never opened — R059
recorded 43 of them. So this measures how far either source can be trusted to a
single episode, not which one lies.

**Some resolutions were calculated, not read, and are marked so.** Eight closed
disputes resolved to a figure exactly equal to the show's series total — "the
show has 30 episodes and she was a lead, therefore 30". That may well be true
and it is still not a reading, so those credits carry `calculated` rather than
`sourced`, and **the coverage gate does not count them**. A corpus that can
raise its own coverage by inference has no gate at all.

**The disputes are the instrument that follows from it.** Where two readings
disagree the ledger keeps both and marks the figure contested, so a reader can
see the width of the uncertainty on the row it belongs to rather than inferring
it from a whole-corpus control. The provenance columns say which body of work
supplied each credit; `disputes.csv` says where two of them disagree.

## L1 depth — how much of each cast the ledger actually holds

Median performers per kingdom: **5**. 31 of 502 kingdoms hold one or none.
1394 of 1898 people (73%) have exactly one credit.

**This is a different question from coverage, and closing coverage did nothing
for it.** Coverage asks how many of the credits we hold carry an episode count;
that is closed. Depth asks how many of the people who were in these shows we
hold at all — and the answer is that most ensembles are represented by one or
two names.

The shape is a **performer crawl**: follow one filmography and every show it
touches enters carrying only the cast member who linked it in. The corroboration
is what is present — several single-season flops are held in full while whole
foundational kingdoms are absent, which no significance criterion produces.

**Why it is urgent rather than merely incomplete.** Betweenness rewards the
person who appears in many kingdoms in small parts, which is exactly the kind of
person a filmography crawl selects for. Until the ensembles are filled, the
presence model may be reporting the acquisition method rather than the industry.
G₀c cannot detect this: it drops hand-assigned edges, and this bias is in what
was collected, not in how it is weighted. `shows.csv · Acquisition` is the field
that would settle it —
and it no longer has a blank in it. That is not the same as an answer. 188 of 502
kingdoms carry `unknown-provenance` — entered before the column existed, their acquisition
never written down and not now recoverable — and 314 record how they actually
arrived. So the question is answerable going forward and closed off behind us: the part of
the corpus a crawl built cannot be separated from the part chosen, and every row admitted
from here has to carry its provenance at entry or the same gap reopens.

## Corpus extension — 1 candidates awaiting a ruling

`candidates.csv` holds 267 proposed kingdoms: 1 awaiting a ruling, **246 admitted**, 20 refused.

The list is hand-authored and cannot be otherwise — nothing in a ledger knows
what is missing from it. Admitting a show is an editorial act, so each row
carries a ruling the editor writes, and only admitted rows reach a worksheet.
The standing rule holds: the corpus expands because a sitcom belongs in the
genealogy, never because it would improve a statistic.

**241 of the 246 admitted kingdoms are now in the corpus.** The ruling has been acted on rather than merely recorded, so their cost is
no longer a projection — it is in the depth figures above. Nothing subtracts
them again: the provenance ablations were retired by editorial ruling, and
the editor's research enters as researched data.

**2 admitted kingdoms are not in the corpus yet.** Each still needs a Show ID,
an author, an episode total and a cast sweep before it is a kingdom rather
than a permission. How much each arrives with varies, and its own row says
why it was admitted — several were ruled in because verified credits are
already waiting on them.

Entering all of them takes the median cast per kingdom from 5 toward 5.0.
That is a description, not a warning: the median measures how completely the
corpus records the kingdoms it holds, and admitting more of them makes it
report its own incompleteness more accurately. Filling the open cast slots
is what moves it back, and that work is the same work either way.
